Auburn Inn a popular spot for bar regulars and families, too

Anni Diamond and Rich Zaluski serve up, from left, classic bar food like made-to-order sandwiches and bacon cheeseburgers. As the weather gets warmer, more and more fishermen will be heading to the popular fishing grounds of LaDueReservoir in southern Geauga County. Join us for lunch or supper at the Auburn Inn in Auburn Township, from which you can see the reservoir. The two-story building has been around since the 1800s and at one time was a grocery store. Eventually, it became a tavern, and today is owned by Anni Diamond and her husband Rich Zaluski, who bought the popular tavern 14 years ago. It’s a friendly place, with good, everyday food freshly prepared by the two owners. Like most taverns, there are regulars anchoring the bar, but it is also a popular place for families. The prices are right and the food is good. Those bar boys like to order starters like potato skins ($8) with bacon, cheddar, and sour cream. The 10-inch cheese quesadilla ($8) on a flour tortilla is simple, but good. Add veggies and chicken (an additional $3) and you have a large platter of 5-6 wedges. The 1/3-pound burgers — available in 10 variations — are the biggest sellers. The natural beef is ground fresh daily by a local butcher. There is a plain burger ($8; with cheese added or the super-duper AuburnInn burger ($14), which is two 1/3-pound patties with bacon, cheese, lettuce, tomato, and mayo. Burgers are served on a toasted Brioche roll with pickle spear and chips or fresh-cut, seasoned fries. They are cooked in canola oil and are quite tasty. The BLT ($10.) came highly recommended. It’s a huge, flavorful sandwich. Three slices of bread, sandwich crisp bacon, lettuce, and tomato with mayo, it's fresh and huge. Four standard selections are on the kids' menu ($6), and they include a fountain beverage and a choice of fries or applesauce.
